Pinnawala eliphant orpanage

Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, is a captive breeding and conservation institute for wild Asian elephants located at Pinnawala village, 13 km northeast of Kegalle town in Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. Pinnawala has the largest herd of captive elephants in the world.

Herbel garden

Being a biodiverse tropical island, Sri Lanka has been gifted with various herbs and medicinal plants, and some are even native to Sri Lanka. Highly potent and therapeutic, these plants have been used for generations as herbal remedies for treating various ailments and controlling diseases. However, most of them are now endangered due to deforestation and climate changes. To prevent extinction and expand the cultivation of medicinal plants and herbs, SLDAC has initiated a unique program within the state. Our herbal gardens scattered across the county homes a diverse range of herbs and medicinal plant species. Most of these model herbal gardens are state-owned or administrated by the Sri Lanka Ayurvedic Drug Corporation. The raw materials for preparing Ayurvedic drugs are primarily sourced from our in-house herbal gardens, while some are obtained from reliable sources.

Kandy tooth temple or nelligala temple

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic is a world-renowned place of worship, where the left Canine tooth of Gautama Buddha is enshrined. The temple which is venerated by thousands of local & foreign devotees and tourists daily was named as a world heritage by UNESCO in 1988.

The temple which carries a lot of value to Buddhists all over the world also has immense cultural value. The architecture is of unique Kandyan architectural style with a combination of the unique style used to build “Dalada Mandira” the shrines which housed the Sacred Tooth Relic previously in other kingdoms.
