Horton Plains in Sri Lanka is the coldest and windiest location in the country. It consists of ecosystems such as Montane evergreen forests, grasslands, marshy lands, and aquatic ecosystems.

Many pools and waterfalls can be found in the park and the Horton Plain is considered to be the most important watershed in Sri Lanka. Horton Plain is the origin of important rivers like Mahaweli, Kelani, and Walawe. The plains are also fed by Belihul Oya, Agra Oya, Kiriketi Oya, Uma Oya, and Bhagwantalawa Oya. The biodiversity of the Horton Plains makes it an excellent place to see endemic animals such as the dark-blue flycatcher, Sri Lanka bush warbler, Sri Lanka whistling thrush, and the beautiful yellow-eared bub.
